The Project

The target of GRE-Taste is twofold: (a) the promotion of gastronomy tourism as a holistic travel experience with the cooperation of agro-food / catering / culture (b) the scientific inventory of the complex Greek cultural heritage regarding food (“food” in GRE-Taste: food, sweets, wine). GRE-Taste sets the following goals: - The development of a multilingual (Greek, English, Russian) application for the traveller with: (a) multimodal information on food preparation methods, the nutritional characteristics, the origin of the materials, the food supply points and the links between the food and the history, timeless culture and the life of each place; (b) automatic translation of descriptions of food from catalogues using visual menu and plates recognition; (c) evaluation of food and services by travellers with optical means, route planning, social networking, communication with destinations and services, (d) personalized multi-topic search (attributes of destination, food, culture). - Develop infrastructure with structured content for a holistic approach to tourism. - Publicity: multimedia/multilingual viewing of agro-food/restaurant businesses, exhibitions inside and outside Greece (and original artwork). GRE-Taste includes ambitious research in (a) the development and organization of multilingual and multimedia content in a freely accessible standard electronic resource (b) the development of automated translation services and (c) visual menu and plates recognition, (d) visual evaluation and feedback and (e) personalised search.

The Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP / "Athena" R.C.)

The Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP / "Athena" R.C.) is a research institute that operates under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. It is one of the institutes of Athena Research and Innovation Center in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies. ILSP is active in the field of Language Technology and Cultural Technology. Its running aim is to be a centre of excellence in basic and applied research in human language technologies. ILSP is based in Athens, Greece and in Xanthi (Thrace region). The Cultural and Educational Technology Institute (CETI) was merged to ILSP in March 2012.

Ktima Biblia Chora, is located in the village of Kokkinochori, Kavala, in Northern Greece. It was established by the oenologists Vassilis Tsaktsarlis and Vangelis Gerovassiliou who planted the first organic vineyard of the estate in the foothills of the Mt Pangeon, in 1998. Today, the 57-hectare privately owned vineyard, surrounds the modern winery, where all the wines of the estate produced.

Γύρω από τη λίμνη Κερκίνη ζουν σήμερα τα περισσότερα βουβάλια της χώρας. Ζώο έλξης και γαλακτοπαραγωγής πολύ καλά προσαρμοσμένο στους υγροτόπους ο νεροβούβαλος ήταν παλιότερα κοινός σε Μακεδονία, Θράκη και Θεσσαλία. Τη δεκαετία του '50 υπήρχαν σε όλη τη χώρα περί τα 75.000 ζώα αλλά το 1992 είχαν μειωθεί σε μόλις 600. Στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90 οι εναπομείναντες πληθυσμοί εντάχθηκαν σ' ένα πρόγραμμα διατήρησης ως σπάνια φυλή αγροτικών ζώων που κινδυνεύει με εξαφάνιση κι από τότε ο πληθυσμός τους άρχισε να ανακάμπτει.

Papaparaskeva confectionary first established on1926 by Mr. George Papaparaskeva and is the one that made Xanthi’s sweets well known all over the country. With his 80 years presence in the city of Xanthi is considered to be the best ambassador of this kind of pastry in Greece and Abroad. The main concern is the quality of raw material and the use of traditional methods of production. The spirit that conditions its long operation is the match of these diachronic values and continuous creativity. In order to assure the production of high qualitative confectionary modern methods of guarantee and certification are applied as European and National directives impose(ISO 22000:2005)

The T.E.I. of Central Macedonia meets modern requirements for the provision of high quality educational standards and the encouragement of applied and technological research. It promotes the employment of scientifically distinguished Professors, the cooperation with educational and research Institutes of our country and with those abroad, the connection between education and production and the job market, the further education of its graduates and the creation of post-graduate studies departments in conjunction with Universities.
